My grandfather was a minister, who is with God now and talks to me in my dreams from God’s corner office. I am a former Sunday school teacher. I taught the Bible to children and showed them how to love God and invite him into their hearts. I believe in God – but I don’t fear him. God is my best friend. God is my ally. God is my boyfriend. God is my best fag. I am God’s fag hag cuz didn’t you know, God is a big fag. Serious bottom too. Butch in the streets, femme in the sheets. That is my God. God is my biggest fan. God gets me, dude.
God wants us all to just get along. He doesn’t give a shit about the profanity. The bitch fucking invented profanity. He thinks it is hilarious. As a woman Protestant minister, I must chime in here. I fully agree! In fact, I do not even call myself the word “Christian” any longer due to how that word has been co-opted by the Religious Right. Their religious idea of Jesus is so far from my own, we cannot have the same faith. Period. Much of what you wrote Margaret comes from a place in your soul that I know well–for I to have it. Seeing Jesus’ central message of love and justice taken over in the name of fear and hatred ought to get anyone raised in what ought to be a faith of peace RILED UP!
Leaning into Jesus’ example is what keeps me grounded in the spirituality I grew up with–but I keep leaving behind the dogma. What good is it anyways? No one was ever transformed by dogma. No one ever helped out another because they felt inspired by dogma. No one ever imagined hope in a place of loss due to dogma. No one ever loved truly because of dogma.

And sure, people will all interpret the Bible as they see fit. If you wanna believe that it refers to Narcissism when it refers to men being lovers of their own selves, then go ahead. I mean after all, if you can get people to think it’s ok to kill in time of war even though the Bible clearly states “thou shalt not kill”, then people will pretty much twist and turn the words in the Bible into anything they want it to mean.

Renee.. the big problem is that history keeps repeating itself and people like you must understand that even you might have your very valid argument in your opinions and the way you see life, it represents your views and your very own opinions and that does not make it truth. Just your very own personal truth.
Even though you might surround yourself with people that asserts life in the same way you do. You got to understand, that does not make any of this truth or reality. Just a group of people who gather agreement into an specific view. Years ago many people agreed on the earth to be flat and to think otherwise was crazy, and guess what, earth was not flat. The analogy for you to understand that a common agreement does not equal to reality.
So if other people like think otherwise, like this awesome woman who has a very own full expression of a loving and accepting God that in my subjectively opinion is way more asserted or close to a God full of love than the view you personally have, even if you don’t agree you shouldn’t attack or defend anything. Just understand that is something different and maybe even doubt yourself in a minute. Learn to be open minded and don’t be so arrogant to believe so strongly you hold the truth (no ones knows the truth). You might even doubt yourself for a minute and think if there is something you might have to learn to grow to a next level and don’t be so sadly limited in a position where you think you do know already what it’s the truth and try to defend and attack others cause they have a different view than the one you personally rather to believe.
I am sure we both agree on something. God does not like arrogance, I am sure my loved God wants us to evolve and learn all sort of different things day after day and that’s why he keeps us alive and let’s us communicate with each other in all different ways so we listen, learn and accept. Margaret, I am Christian. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save me and EVERYONE else on the planet. And I gathered that information from reading the BIBLE. And if I take one part of the Bible and claim that it is true (Jesus Christ) but leave the rest out, how can I really believe that I am a Christian? I am not just referring to homosexuality. I am referring to EVERY sin that is listed in the Bible. And there are many.
They are there not to condemn us (and we shouldn’t condemn others) but to make us see that we are filthy without Jesus Christ’s blood that washed us clean. I am not judging you in any way possible. I just don’t want you to think that because you believe in GOD you are a CHRISTIAN (too different things). I am telling you that so that maybe you don’t spread that confusion to others. People are confused enough out there right now, obviously, from the comments on your blog.
And before you say, “Jesus never said ANYTHING about homosexuality” he made VERY clear that he came “not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it” and he also says that “anyone who keeps my father’s commands, loves me”.
