I think that is exactly what Margaret Cho is doing, speaking up. Did you see how many non-asian people were in that photo? If I were in a group of that many people all doing faggy voice, I would just nod and smile too. Then slag them off on my radio show.

As an adopted, bisexual, Korean American woman I have always really connected with your stand up. Not just because it’s ridiculously funny but because it’s always intelligent, well constructed, brave and insightful.
Thank you for standing up, using your talents and calling attention to the things that some people would rather have glossed over.
I’ve worked with and around Cyrus before and always held a fair measure of respect for her in this terrible business of being a ‘celebrity’. But in light of her statement (read: excuse) I can’t help but feel that in an effort to spurn more scandal she’s just taken advantage of a societally acceptable racial prejudice. Because of course ‘Asian face’ is just a ‘goofy face’.. Though I’m not sure it’d fly so well if they’d brought out the black shoe polish instead.
I’m not about persecuting young people in the business for mistakes made. Not at all. But trying to explain away behavior and make it seem okay just isn’t the right method to clean up your mess. She is just a kid.. I don’t want to nail her to a cross.. I probably will work with her again. But what about all the other kids – Asian kids – who watch her show, see her concerts, buy her music and her merchandise?
