Vote No on Prop 8 in CA

I did this while I was really sick because it was very important to me. Between takes I was nearly fainting, but I guess you can’t really tell. Good lighting goes a long way. Please vote NO on PROP 8 in California.

  1. hey margaret! me and my best friend kiki are coming to your equalipalooza in SF tomorrow and we’re pretty excited but i wanted to say i think she is even more excited than me….i think she is gay for you….which would be great cause her boyfriend is a pig. anyways, she is one of the funniest people i know and i am one of the …no wait…i AM the freakiest person SHE knows so we figured with the synergistic san francisco factor, you’d definitely want to hang out with us after the show. OF COURSE YOU DO!!!!

anyway she totally has the asian worship thing going for you cause she’s asian and feels underepresented except when you are in the room. obviously, now you DO have to hang out with us! one hot asian girl and a freak! if you see us at least say hi i think she really would turn gay if you just did. she’s asian (!) and hot, i am kinda fat and white with tattoos on my face. and all over.

we’ll be sitting amidst the throng wondering if your mom and dad are counting coup….fo-ti dollah…fo-ti dollah…fo-ti dollah…kiki loves your parents.

  2. just for the record………ms. generic is NOT the freakiest person i know, but will probably be one of the freakiest tomorrow. and i am not hot.

i love you margaret! and everyone: VOTE NO ON HOMOPHOBIC MARRIAGE!!!

From Monday’s LA Times…quote from Father Geoffrey Farrow in a sermon coming out (literally) against Prop 8.

“I know these words of truth will cost me dearly,” he said. “But to withhold them…I would become an accomplice to a moral evil that strips gay and lesbian people not only of their civil rights but of their human dignity as well.”

The priest was subsequently stripped of his salary and benefits, and ordered to stay away from all church communities he had served.

So very sad. Please vote NO on Prop 8. Bigotry hurts everyone. Love you Ms. Cho!

  4. Thank you so much for doing your part to create awareness. The other side is really ramping up their campaign and I wish more celebrities like you would speak up for the cause… we’re so close & this one is too important to lose!

  5. ok keek….i’m the COOLEST freak you know.

besides, we have to figure out how to get devlin’s fan letter to her! (devlin is my nine year old son) AND i did just finish sewing this one-of-a-kind dress for the event…

  6. I wish I lived in California so I could vote “no” with you all. Well, I wish that marriage rights were for EVERYONE and things like this didn’t even get legislated.

Love you margaret, thank you for inspiring me all of the time!

I hope bowling for boobies was a blast! (say that 3 times fast)

  7. I agree with you Margaret on voting no. Too bad I don’t live in Cali. And yes, good lighting does go a long way. Haha. You can’t even tell you were sick. Hope you get better.

  8. I just don’t understand at all how two people getting married threatens anyone. :/

If your throat is sore, try boiling equal parts honey, lemon juice, and water with a garlic clove, then drinking the resulting tea. It really does seem to help!

  9. Actually madame CHo, I have to thank you for something. ‘Course youd on’t know me but I wanted to tell you that one of your routines seriously saved my sanity when I had back surgery.
See I had a severely herniated disc in my spine. The doctor said “oh you don’t need an MRI, it’s just a fatty deposit pressing on your nerves, work out more and lose weight!” (asshole!) So I did, even though I could barely walk a lot of the time, and surprise surprise, it got so bad that I could not longer walk or sit in a chair. So I had to have surgery.
I realized that I could barely take care of myself before the surgery, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to after for a while. So my mom, bless her heart, came up to take care of me for a little while.
I was lying there in bed when it hit me- oh damn. I was 27 years old and my mom was driving up to the bay area from L.A. to wash my vagina.
I mean okay so when I was in diapers and 3 months old, no big deal, right?
But when you’re an adult, you really never think that your mother is going to have to come over and wash your vagina. And it’s odd. I was thinking to myself, “is she gonna know, is she gonna get that weird mom-sense and know that there have been tongues and cucumbers and things up in there? Is she gonna meet my boyfriend for the first time and be thinking “he stuck it in my little girl” as she’s scrubbing away?
But I found your bit about Gwen and I shared it with her, and we laughed our asses off. I mean there isn’t really a graceful way to break the ice when you have to ask your mom to wash your vagina, so thank goodness there’s Gwen.
So every day she’d run me a bath and come in to help me stand up and say “HI MAH NAME IS GWEN AND I’M HERE TO WARRRSH YER VAGINA.” Which really made it a little less horrifying.
So thank you, Margaret Cho, for forging bravely ahead, for blazing the trail, for making getting one’s vagina washed by someone who one would normally not have near their vagina at all a little less humiliating and a little more amusing.

Oh yeah, and I can walk again now, too.

  10. Hi Margaret.
I just want to tell you that ive discovered your comedy on youtube and through watching videos about you and your work and reading your blog and books I have discovered a true role model.

I am a 21 year old faghag student here in Australia and we are trying to get the same rights for LGBT people here for marriage. It is especially horrible here in Australia as our ONE constitutional right is FREEDOM OF RELIGION. You read right, no freedom of speech technically and for a country that is supposed to be free from religion and religious government we are still strangely attached.

You are just an incredible role model for not only young women regardless of their seuality but you are a fabulous role model for everyone.

I love you Margaret Cho! Please come to Australia and perform we would love it!
    -Katie.

  11. Hi Margaret,
    Great ad!

I’m sorry about posting a link but my e-mail set up doesn’t work with your site’s anti-spam system.

Anyway, I wrote a long message to all my family and friends about why all Asians and all people of color should oppose Prop 8. I’ve gotten a really good response, so I wanted to share it with you. I also posted it to my livejournal.

Thank you for working so hard for marriage equality. You are awesome!

  12. Oh, I just love it! I can’t tell you were sick at all. I love how cheesy this is but also so sincere! I hope everyone votes NO! I know it’s a big wish, but there’s little hope left in NV.

  13. Dear Margaret,
I love you and have such deep respect for all of your work – you always have something to teach me. Thanks so much for this video. I’ve been trying to spread the word about voting No on Prop 8. This was a great reminder for me to speak directly and simply, and to give people the benefit of the doubt.
