Letter from Jamiel Terry

Dear Friends,

This is a very difficult email for me to write. Most of you know that I came out publicly a little over a year ago in Out Magazine. That was a life-long process for me, and now the step that I am going to take has taken me over a year and many conversations with family and friends.

It is and was very important for me not to get into a personal political attack against my father. Even after his very personal attack, that was full of lies and half truths, in the Washington Times, I chose to take the high road and praise his strengths and achievements and not his failures and weakness.

However a friend of mine recently made me aware of my father’s radio shows, which are available for preview on his website. I will simply let you listen to them on your own in order for you to come to your own conclusion. I have no doubt that you will be filled the same kind of righteous indignation I was.

As you may or may not be aware, my father is running for the State Senate in Florida. SHOCKINGLY enough he has the support of the Republican party, and his chances are much better than his failed run for Congress in New York.

I need your help. I need your advice, your support, and your media machines to make sure that this man is not able to pass laws that will fill not only the state of Florida with hatred, but hatred so strong it will permeate the nation. Because I guarantee you my father is not and will not be satisfied until he runs for the presidency. This is a personal goal of his and has been for 20 years. He used to joke about appointing me to the Supreme Court.

I want to be able to campaign against him, but I want to know that I have your support to do this.

Here is the link to the page. Please listen to:

1. Show that aired May 17, 2004: From Boston City Hall while nation’s first “same-sex marriages” are being performed

2.Show that aired May 7, 2004: Topic is, “My Homosexual Son”

I PROMISE you, if racism, religious persecution, sexism, hatred, sexual discrimination make you physically ill, you will only have to listen to minutes of these shows before you will feel the obligation to do something.

Let’s take on this fight together. Thank you!

Jamiel (contact me)

  1. The death of his gay son never slowed Randall Terry down one bit. He doesn’t let \minor\ trials like this slow him down from \fighting the evil gay agenda\. PATHETIC!

I know Randall personally because I use to be a brainwashed Christian who went to his bible school. That is where I met Jamiel. Jamiel deserved better then this!!!

  2. I am Jamiel’s older sister. Occasionally, I browse the internet out of interest to see who’s minds my brother or my dad are on and what they may be saying, especially when I am missing Jamiel… It’s comforting to know that people loved my little brother and I’ve seen numberous blogs supporting who he was and what he stood for. One thing that bothered Jamiel until the very end was the political divide and insensitivity of Dad. But I want to point out that NO MATTER the differences, families can still love eachother. I know that my dad loved Jamiel. Even if it was not apparent for the general public to see. I know Jamiel and I know that he would not want people to hate or bash Randall for his personal failings as a father but to challenge his politics and religious beliefs while trying to improve the plights of those discriminated against. So please continue to push those thoughts and the less effective conversation should probably not be publicized. Thanks!
