Note from Team Cho: Margaret is taking the day off. She asked us to post this letter from Nick.
Subject: When Our Heros Show Their Humanity
Dear Ms. Cho,
I am reaching out to you to say my heart goes out to your wounded heart as well as your unrested soul this week (regarding the war and it’s effect on a beloved Korean peacekeeper).
I had wanted to just send a congrats and a letter of support after viewing your new release and soaking in the unstructured reaction from all those with pens and papers and a website. Instead my concern over world and community events has me feeling concerned about yourself and others that have expressed a humanness we avid listeners and fans never allow from our heroes and heroines.
My heart’s wish this week is that I could grow mightier than my heroes (and heroines) so that I may pick up their banner, carry their charge with the same strength and courage as they have continued to do, and be big enough to comfort them as much as they have comforted and provided haven to our minds, our ‘self’s and our very beings.
In my hometown of Wahiawa, HI, I lived next to our sacred “Healing Stone” which is where I visited in spirit this week to offer to those before us my well-wishing and hope for our community big and small.
I include you in that hope.
This conversation could be cluttered with my praise of you, or commonplace congratulations, but found it more important of late to offer my voice of hope.
I know of the power of voice. But what I have learned of listening, has been more profound to me in this time, but what hasn’t been said yet, is that so many have hope, it’s just silent and has been kept within. One such message of hope I heard was one from my displaced best friend and life partner in Syria. It was one of an absolute affirmation that life thrives in adversity, this from his family and friends, who are faced with adversity but find something within to continue on.
I hear and feel hope, though it has no voice and no ears to listen to it.
Here’s to life, and here’s to hope, which is there, though silent.
Much love and sincerity,
Nick
