Brigitte Bardot is a Fascist

Brigitte Bardot is a fascist! What a disappointment. And God Created Woman. so she could be a spokesperson for the National Front? That is really sad, especially because I am a fan. Actually not as much as a fan of her as I am of Catherine Deneuve, of course.

Bardot actually never made a good film in her life, although she is super pretty, in kind of a grand white lady way. Actually, she did make one good film, which was a short story, in a European compilation of Edgar Allen Poe tales made with different directors like Vadim and Fellini. It had the best of the best 60s actors, like Alain Delon, Terence Stamp and Jane Fonda.

Of all the illustrious public personae of her time, Brigitte Bardot made the worst choices after her introduction to the world. She decided to devote her life to animals, which is admirable. I love my dogs. They can do what they want to all the time, as long as they are not biting people or robbing banks (a reference to “The Doberman Gang,” an impossibly funny movie I saw on Mexican TV about Dobermans who live a life of crime).

The viewing of this film sparked a long discussion with my dogs. My younger girl, Bronwyn, said that she thought that it was ‘cool,’ and my older reasonable boy, Ralph, said that he thought it would be alright if the dogs were robbing a dog bank, but he didn’t believe in dogs stealing money from an institution. Bronwyn said, “What are they going to
have in a dog bank?” Ralph answered, “Treats, in the safety deposit boxes,” to which Bronwyn replied by turning up her nose and leaving the room.

If anything, I am more accepting of dogs (and making up dog conversations) than I am of human beings, but then again, I am never going to lose sight that I am not one of them. I am not a dog, so I can only do so much for dog rights. I wish there were more dog activists, because then they would be marching for dog rights, but they don’t have hands to hold up picket signs like “Down With Cats!!!” which I don’t agree with either. If the dogs all got together, they would spend most of their time sniffing each other’s butts than dealing with issues.

I think animal activists are amazing and certainly needed, but if you are one, you shouldn’t be antigay or racist. Of course this is my own opinion, but it just doesn’t make sense. To be loving towards animals is noble, but at the expense of human beings, because of religion or nation of origin is outright insane. Bardot has been explicit about her feelings about interracial marriage, in which she described it as European ‘decadence’. She has also been fined numerous times for inciting racial hatred in her native France, making everyone embarrassed for her.

France is a beautiful country, with a peaceful nature, welcoming to all. It boasts the largest population of Muslims, topping five million, in all of the continent, and they are neither the barbarous menace nor the evidence of the decline of the nation that Bardot says that they are. She condemns the new languages in the new (multicultural, presumably) Europe. She complains that it has led to an increase in mediocrity, that too many people are unshaven, filthy and badly dressed. She also refers to gays as ‘fairground freaks,’ and attacks women who become politicians.

What is she doing? If she is making all these statements, is she not in a political forum? I am outraged because I was a fan, and I guess that her famous beauty is not indicative at all to what was on the inside. To watch “Contempt” today isn’t possible without having contempt for the actress who would become the object and source of it years after its release.

Doesn’t matter for me, I always hated that film anyway. It’s fucking boring! Not everything from the French New Wave is worth watching. For her to be the idealized woman, worshipped everywhere during her heyday, now is a sickening joke, that is unfortunately on her.

What a sad state of affairs. Brigitte Bardot might love dogs, but that doesn’t stop her from being a total bitch.
