Theatre of Stupidity

Pat Robertson says we should just assassinate Venezuela’s President Chavez, calling him a “dangerous enemy” for his leftist views and because he controls enough oil to make Robertson think he could hurt America. I am not sure exactly how we can be hurt by oil, other than the possibility that it would raise our cholesterol level sky high, but Robertson thinks so, and he is hoppin’ mad. It is nice when our religious leaders talk like terrorists. The sad part is I know that lots of Americans would not see this comment as inappropriate or out of line. We have reached a terrible era in this country of unbridled stupidity. It is a war between the haves and the have-nots, but we aren’t talking about money. This time it is about intelligence. Recently, we have seen some astonishing examples of dummy-in-progress:

Robertson saying it would be cheaper to just assassinate Chavez instead of going to war with him. A penny saved is a Venezuelan president assassinated. I guess that is the trouble with war. It’s expensive. Never mind the incredible loss of life and crimes against humanity. Pricey! Plus it is rich coming from The 700 Club, which should now call itself The 187 Club, because they are supposed to live by the motto, “What would Jesus do?” Something makes me think Jesus wouldn’t do that. But this is not your father’s Christianity. Today, we have kick ass Christians, who shoot first and turn the other cheek later.

There was the guy who fired a shotgun during a prayer service at Camp Casey a while ago. When questioned by secret service, he merely said “Figure it out for yourself.” Then he said, “This is Texas.” I suppose in Texas, firing at anti-war protesters isn’t meant to be taken as a threat. It’s just good manners.

Also at Camp Casey, another guy ran over a bunch of crosses set up in memory of soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq with his pickup truck. That’s right. When you disagree with mothers who must try to make sense of the needless death of their children, what do you do?
When in doubt, vandalize!

Camp Casey counter-protests have become a theatre of stupidity. Of course my favorite pro-war protester of all time is often on the Democratic Underground website (scroll to the bottom) – the guy with the sign that says, “Get a brain! MORANS”

If they only had one.

Have something to add?
