Alexander Cho, 2002

Margaret Cho kicks ass, but you already knew that. Her enormously funny (and successful) stand-up film I'm The One That I Want launched her into the dubious realm of gay icon status a few years back on the strength of her frank, unapologetic humor. Notorious continues that tradition. It's a raunchy stand-up routine that explodes the whole concept of sexual politics in your face; she covers everything from fisting to eating disorders to B & D clubs with equal enthusiasm. Margaret spends a little too much time talking about pussy and doesn¹t seem to mind that gay guys couldn't care less, but that¹s what we love about her, right? While production values are mysteriously low, and although her trademark positive message of self-acceptance could have used a bit more fleshing out this time around, Margaret remains really, really funny, in a stomach-clutching good way.
