Happy

Do you ever really think about the times when you are happy? I don’t. Happiness to me is just an unnoticed state of mind, something we drive through to get to lonely and miserable, or ecstatic. Happy is just kind of normal for me, and so I don’t even greet it with a smile. It’s something I take for granted like the sunrise. It’s light out, I am happy – these things don’t register.

I am guessing this is bad because whenever I am unhappy, then I search my mind and heart for memories and evidence of past happiness, and I cannot find it. I didn’t save anything because I didn’t care.

Well today, I am happy. And I did laundry, so everyone around me is happy.

  1. Love the laundry bit–kudos for clean clothes 😉 Seriously tho, this happens to me all the time. Sometimes I feel like I just have bad memory. Or maybe I have a short attention span. Or maybe all that is because I smoke hella weed. Sorrynotsorry.

  2. I think it’s just fine…better that unhappiness be an aberration than a natural state of being. If your contentment is so natural you can’t really name it, I think that’s a great way to be.

  3. Good blog post on happiness! I think that it’s great that you don’t stop to figure out if you’re particularly happy on any given day. It sounds like you’ve learned to do what many of us wish we could do–live in the moment, and not dwell in the land of negativity. I talk to so many people every day who seem to have such a difficult time finding anything positive about their lives. Very sad. Life is too short.

P.S. I love the photo of you with your mom and dad! What a great picture. Your parents look very proud of you.

  4. “Life is a sequel of ‘bit’ parts” If you get to the “Big Island-of Ha.60+guest counting “WE”,are X–OLD-Actors? Bob n Ran Artist, More? WE’ll Show you’ll,around married for 37yrs love bob

  5. Very happy for your happiness, and double yay @ getting laundry done, which is very hard during unhappy times.

Thing about life is that it always has yay and ick, but the ick feels so bad and hurts the sensitive Spirit so much that it’s easy to forget the natural happy before it. Here’s to remembering the Happy to smoother sail us through the Unhappy waves.

  6. Please come to desert again! Did I miss you coming out here for the new tour? 🙁 If not, I will be there! Loved Beautiful, a great night to remember. Love and Hugs, brian kortmeyer

  7. Dear Margaret, thanks for a great show in Dilmington last night. And even bigger thanks for having the courage and wit to speak up and out against injustices and taboos related to LGBT, women, and ethnic minorities. You are helping make this world a slightly more tolerable place. : )

    Admiration and gratitude from Philly,
    Megan S.
