Hot Like Me

I have beautiful, amazing, incandescently glowing and mostly clear skin, and I try really hard to get it that way. Skin is totally important to me. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and so I rely on my healthy appearance to get me by. It isn’t easy, especially when you are pushing 40 as hard as I do! My makeup look is basically no makeup, only red lipstick (and maybe a little bit of a darkened eyebrow), because I always want to look like a French-Vietnamese exchange student cutting class to meet my much older inappropriate lover (very Marguerite Duras inspired), and this look requires perfect skin to pull off.

Whenever anyone says, “You have gorgeous skin!” I say, “Yes, that is because I work it from the inside out.” I drink a lot of water. Like not even a cute amount. I am always drinking it. At the gym, not only do I have a bottle in my hand constantly, I also drink out of the water fountain and out of paper cups out of the arrowhead dispenser when I walk by it. I drink and drive – water that is – but I never leave a plastic bottle in the car because the plastic supposedly leaches chemicals into the water. I don’t know if this is true, but it just tastes like ‘plastic tea’ which is creepy anyway so don’t do it. I drink big gulps of water in the shower, which some might think is gross but I don’t care because I have perfect skin so fuck you.

I really love tap water, not just here in LA but everywhere. Sydney has excellent tap, as does New York City. The only places I have had a problem with tap water are New Delhi and Mexico City. Everywhere else is cool. Water is the best beautifying agent. If you drink enough of it, it will make you beautiful and gorgeous and perfect. I drink more water than anyone I know. I really like to go to restaurants and get big ice waters, not wine, not vodka, not Diet Coke, not coffee, not bottled water, just big ice water from the tap with a lemon wedge. I rely on water for everything I need drink-wise. It is the best thing you can do for yourself. This of course means I am forever going to the bathroom. I drink it every time I think about it. I am totally one of those middle aged Hollywood ladies who carries her water in a net bag slung across her body. Please drink as much water as you possibly can, if you want to be hot like me.

  1. don’t worry about what they say about drinking water while in the shower. that’s not gross. drinking from the bathtub with a straw while bathing, that’s gross!

  2. i agree. there’s nothing sweeter than drinking pure natural water, especially in the shower. also, bottled water that has been in my car for weeks is gross. serious. i was so desperate for water one time driving home in the middle of typical Hawaii traffic that i had to drink it. urrrhgh! it was warm, mulchy, as if devouring on plastic! anyway, i feel you on the water thing. Make sure to try our tap in Hawaii before you leave though!!! see you on the 9th!

    -always,
    #1 HO to CHO.

  3. girl just made me hella thirsty, seriously. and I urgenly invite you to try the tap in Duluth, MN. It’s like a liquid miracle.

    Love to the Cho!

  4. Wow! Now, I just read this but I posted a blog entry about skin care just today. Coincidence or brilliant minds thinking alike? Ha ha! Anyway, I drink water when I can myself. Not too, too much though. I’m shorter than the average Joe and end up having to go to the bathroom A LOT. Still, I feel water is essential and you are right… Work from the inside-out. Great advice!

  5. I drink lots of water and green tea, far more than the average person! I am nearly 18 and have mostly good skin. I do like my chocolate, and I’m going through a bit of a spotty phase… but all AROUND my spots, I have lovely skin! LOL. Due to being infection-prone, I did the reccomended and stopped drinking fizzy, carbonated drinks as well as coffee, and what a difference! I NEVER drink them now. Still drink lots of water, and it’s great!

  6. i love you Miss Cho and i agree with you on many levels. i am coming to your show in maui on sat night and our group of 17 people are sooo excited to see you!
i am a makeup artist MAC Pro member and i will do your “less is more makeup” for you as a gift if you want. i have MAC Red! the best and the best mascara! we can drink water together and i will bring you real hawaiian fruit. love, kahulani

  7. I am “addicted” to water too. Being a college student in a town with not so great tap water I am constantly having to refill my Britta pitcher! I hope you use a Nalgine or something to that affect, instead of just plastic bottles, not to sound like a preachy hippy…

  8. I have to tell you, you really fucked me on friday!

I went to a friends place for a bit of a party they were having, one of them is only about 16 or something so she had all these people from her school there (which is one fucked up school).

One of these 16 year old girls got so frickin’ smashed that people were coming to me to tell her to drink water, because girls always listen to the gay guy, right?!

The only thing I could think to tell her was that she would be hot if she drunk water (take note that I’d had a few drinks by this point…), so I just said “DRINK WATER AND YOU WILL BE HOT!” and walked off.

Next thing I know people are screaming at me telling me I’m the most horrible person in the world, this poor girl was in the next room crying her eyes out because I thought she wasn’t hot already.

    Great.
I became the bitchy queer who called the 16 year old girl ugly, which she wasn’t – for the record.
It all ended up okay, but for a short while there I was the most hated person on the planet.

  9. I’m a water fiend too! But then I read this story about a woman who died from drinking TOO much water:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6263029.stm
Apparently if you drink too much you can dilute the salt concentration in your blood, cause your brain to swell, and die! So, be careful kids. I’m pretty sure you can strike a balance where you drink enough to get good skin without the dying part.

  10. Oh Divine Ms. Cho, I’m so glad you’re purpin’ the water, I try to drink two litres a day. I have to drink bottled water (I live in Mexico, you understand) don’t hold it against me.

If perchance you happen to wander this way of the Rio Bravo, drink Bonafont, it’s delish.

Also, drink it here at my house as I would love to have you visit and have a girls night and drink delicious water.

  11. ditto on the h2o! I get waiters leaving the pitcher at the table all the time – they get tired of having to keep refilling my water glass. it’s def the way to go for good skin and general good things for your body.

i think i learned it from playing rugby – after a game, you weren’t allowed to get drunk until you re-hydrated: “no beer until you pee clear”!

    love ya xo

  12. I hear green tea is really good for detoxifying your body. It makes sense because your energy is reved up and you pee all the time and you sweat more. Also it’s an antioxidant so it supposedly fights free radicals in your body (including skin of course) supposedly creating a more even skintone. if anything i would say it stimulates bloodflow thus creating a more glowing complexion.
